On Friday, 22 April 2022, the German Embassy officially handed over a donation of sports equipment the Deutscher Turn- und Sportverein (DTS) and the Basketball Artist School (BAS). Currently, a coaching exchange project in the areas of youth basketball and soccer is taking place in the framework of the anniversary programme of the Deutsch-Namibische Gesellschaft (DNG) on the topic of 20 years of city partnership between Berlin und Windhoek. The German coaches have been conducting workshops in Namibia since the beginning of April; the Namibian coaches will travel to Germany for the return visit later in the year.

The donation includes soccer balls and basketball balls, cones, sports bags, magnetic coaching boards as well as linesman flags and supports the implementation of the coaching courses. The handing over was attended by representatives from DTS, BAS, DNG, the German Embassy as well as Mr Hecht for the City of Windhoek.
Background
In 2020, Windhoek and Berlin celebrated the 20-year anniversary of their city partnership. For this occasion, the Deutsch-Namibische Gesellschaft (DNG) had created an anniversary programme, which due to the COVID-19 pandemic was postponed to this year. The DNG created a large programme with different projects from the areas of culture, arts and sports, which is financially supported by the LOTTO-Stiftung Berlin and the Berlin Senate.
Several of the projects already took place, such as the performance of the musical fairy tale of “Peter and the Wolf” by Sergei Prokofiev by musicians from the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin or the discussion and exhibition “Independent” in the Afrika-Haus in Berlin. The complete programme can be found on the website of the DNG: https://dngev.de/
