German Ambassador Invites Journalist To Germany

Ndanki Kahiurika from “The Namibian” newspaper has been invited to participate in a visit to Germany on how Germany is dealing with the history of the 20th century. The visit takes place 1-7 July, 2018 and is part of the Visitors Programme of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Together with other journalists, historians, memorial and education experts from around the world, Ms. Kahiurika will have the opportunity to study the educational work concerning the past and efforts to come to terms with it in Germany. The programme includes visits to places of remembrance and memorial sites, discussions at the Federal Foreign Office, other Federal Ministries, the German Bundestag and various institutions such as the Federal Agency for Civic Education, the Foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future”, the Federal Commissioner for the Records of the State Security Service of the former GDR, the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Germany, discussions with research institutions and institutions of civilian conflict prevention on current phenomena of right-wing populism and extremism as well as anti-Semitism as challenges for open and democratic societies.
On 11 May 2018, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Namibia Christian Schlaga presented Ms. Kahiurika with her letter of invitation at the embassy.
