Funding possibilities

Do you have a great project idea that you would like to implement but lack the funding? It is possible to apply for funding with the German Embassy in different areas. Here you will find a short overview with the relevant Information.

Small Cultural Fund:

The cultural fund of the Embassy supports a broad range of projects from the arts, with a particular focus on the cultural exchange between Germany and Namibia. Applications can be handed in any time during the year.

Volume per project: applications should not exceed 4,500.00 EURO

Who can apply: Namibian and German artists, cultural groups and art associations from all fields (for example music, dance, theatre, film, visual arts)


Human Rights

The German Embassy in Windhoek has been able to regularly support projects of up to 100,000.00 Euros in recent years to strengthen human rights in Namibia. Thematic priorities of the funding include strengthening civil society, in particular supporting defenders of human rights, human rights institutions and the media, protecting and promoting women's rights, protecting and promoting the rights of children, and promoting economic, social and cultural rights.

The call for proposals is usually published in the second half of the year for projects to be implemented in the year to follow.

Volume per project: up to 100,000.00 Euros

Who can apply: Non-governmental organisations active in the area of human rights.

Cultural Preservation Fund of the Federal Foreign Office

Projects from the area of cultural preservation and the preservation of cultural heritage can be supported by the Federal Foreign Office. Applications should be handed in with the German Embassy by 30 August for the following year.

Volume per project: no maximum limit

Who can apply: All organisations active in the areas of cultural heritage and preservation. NB: Purely archaeological or field research work cannot be supported through this fund.


Micro-project fund of the German Embassy

The main aim of the fund is to reduce immediate poverty and to foster a sustainable livelihood for people in need, by supporting community-based projects. These kinds of small scale projects must be implemented by registered NGO’s / non-profit organizations.

Applications should be handed in with the German Embassy at the beginning of a calendar year.

Volume per project: up to 25,000.00 Euros maximum

Who can apply: Namibian non-governmental organizations, self-help groups and recognized associations.

Sports Equipment

It is possible to apply for the provision of sports equipment through the German Embassy. Applications can be handed in any time during the year.

Volume per project: no maximum limit, projects should not exceed 5,000.00 EURO

Who can apply: Namibian sports federations, leagues as well as social projects with a focus on sports.


Music Instruments

In cooperation with the German Embassy, the Goethe-Institut supports music groups all over the world through the provision of instruments. The applications should be handed in with the German Embassy. Applications can be handed in any time during the year.

Volume per project: maximum 10,000.00 EURO

Who can apply: Music groups that also play a significant social role in their communities.


Projects in the area of German as a Foreign Language

The German Embassy supports projects in the area of German as a Foreign Language. Applications should be handed in by 01 November for the following year.

Volume per project: no maximum limit, projects should not to exceed 10,000.00 EURO

Who can apply: Educational institutions or any organisation active in the area of German as a Foreign Language
