The WeCare Foundation is receiving financial support from the German Embassy in Windhoek amounting to over N$ 460,000 (approx. EUR 22,000) to carry out urgently needed renovation work at the retirement home.
On Friday, October 31, 2025, Ambassador Dr. Thorsten Hutter welcomed residents of the Senior Park retirement home as well as Ms. Aletta Hough and Ms. Suzette Williams, representatives of the WeCare Foundation, to the ceremonial signing of the grant agreement.
The apartments in the state-owned retirement home have not been properly renovated since 1982 and have only been maintained irregularly. As a result, they are in a very dilapidated condition; almost all of the roofs are leaking. Significant damage has already been identified in 66 apartments, including mold infestation and softened and broken roof tiles.
The aim of the German assistance is to fund the sealing of the roofs of these 66 apartments. In addition, existing structural damage is to be repaired and damaged ceiling panels replaced ensuring that the residents of these apartments are no longer exposed to health risks such as moisture and mold. At the same time, safety risks and the danger of injury by falling roof tiles are minimized. In addition, residents' property is better protected as water damage is prevented through sealing and repairs.
Our project partner, the WeCare Foundation Namibia, has been supporting the Senior Park retirement home for about 1.5 years and aims to enable the residents of the retirement home to enjoy a dignified standard of living. Amongst other various assistance, it provides a meal once a week, supports various leisure programs, provides medical care for the residents, and tries to carry out the most necessary maintenance work such as gardening, replacing hot water geysers, and paint work.
