In early October 2025, fifty students from the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule, Delta Secondary School, and Namib High School had the opportunity to prepare for the German Language Diploma (DSD) in the upcoming year and spent a weekend at the desert oasis of Goanikontes. Over the course of two days, they fully immersed themselves in the German language and culture. The workshops were jointly organized by the three schools, the German Language Department of the University of Namibia (UNAM), and the German Embassy in Windhoek, with funding from the Federal Republic of Germany.
The weekend seminar was a whirlwind of creative activities designed to enhance the participants' German skills in an exciting and practical way. The participants danced, cooked, invented things in German, engaged in sports, and celebrated together. As a special highlight, the group hiked early in the morning to the historic Weitzenberg ruins, an old German farmhouse that was destroyed by a flood in 1917.
The German Embassy in Windhoek would like to thank all the volunteers, the Goanikontes team, and everyone involved who contributed to this great success. This unforgettable weekend served as an inspiring reminder for everyone of the value of language, culture, and collaboration.
