For short-term stays less than 90 days in 180 days

Schengen visas allow people to stay in the Schengen area for up to 90 days every six-month period (90 days in 180 days).

What is the Schengen Area?

The Schengen Area is composed of 29 countries: 25 EU Member States (except Ireland) and 4 non-EU countries (Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein).

If your main destination is not in one of these countries, you might benefit from the transit privilege if your stopover is in Germany. More information can be found on I'm planning a trip by air and have to transit at a German airport. Do I need a visa? - Federal Foreign Office

Where do I have to apply?

Kindly note that you must lodge your application for a Schengen visa at the Embassy/Consulate of the country of your main destination.

  • Visiting more than one Schengen country: you will have to apply at the Embassy/Consulate of the country where you will spend the longest time and have your main destination.
  • Visiting several Schengen countries (for stays of equal length and equal main destination): you will have to apply at the Embassy/Consulate of the first country you will visit.

As a general rule, you must apply for a Schengen visa at the Embassy/Consulate with territorial responsibility for the country where you are legally resident.

You need to book through TLScontact.

A non-refundable service fee of 24,51 Euro (approx. 500 NAD) is applied by TLScontact additionally to the normal visa fee, that remains unchanged. You can choose a time slot convenient for you and will receive more information about the documents you need to submit during your visit at the TLScontact German Visa Application Centre. There you pay also the service fee (card only, no cash) and you finally collect your passport.

2. Preparing your application

What happens during processing?

The Embassy will review your application and make a decision on whether or not to grant you a visa. To this end, it will assess whether your application meets the legal requirements. The processing time for a visa application may take up to 15 consecutive days according to the European Visa Code.

Information for visa holders

If all the information on your visa label is correct, you are free to travel. Please check the information on the label as soon as your passport is returned to you. You should let us know immediately if there are any mistakes so that we can issue you a new visa.

  • Your visa will state your full name and passport number and include your photo. It will also state the period of validity. This is the time period in which you can travel. In addition, it will state the maximum number of days you can stay in the Schengen area during the period of validity of your visa. In order to allow you to change your travel dates at short notice, visas are usually valid for additional fifteen (15) days. However, the number of days stated in the visa must not be exceeded.
